Assessing the capability of Overseas Qualified Teachers

TeachingExpertise Article
This week's poll asks a question about Overseas Qualified Teachers. Lynne Smith asks fellow Tex readers to have compassion for these teachers, who can find it difficult to get information about teaching in the UK

Overseas Qualified Teachers (OQT) have to pass tests and have their qualifications assessed. It is not just a case of walking in and teaching - and if qualifications do not meet the criteria OQT have to take extra courses through uni. Have some compassion for them - very few Heads and LEA's can actually give you very much help - or they couldn't 6 years ago - I had to find out eveything for myself  - this included writing to MP's for advice!!
