Family Centre
These are sometimes called Parents’ Centres.
They are places usually set up and run by parents of children with special needs to offer advice to other parents.
The Family Centre will often provide support with the assessment process, tribunals and other matters. They may offer a buddy system where a volunteer will attend meetings at school with parents. This might include being the independent parental supporter when a child is undergoing statutory assessment.
Family Centres usually offer:
- counselling
- training
- information sessions on various conditions affecting children with special educational needs
- therapy
- advice and guidance for parents.
