I have always been a keen postcard sender, I make a point of taking pre-printed labels with addresses on wherever I go. Really quite organised for me, but it is a method which I routinely stick to.
In return I often receive cards from colleagues and friends from all over the world. One from Emma, the young, inspirational member of my staff, another from a close friend who teaches geography, both from Australia. Another from Croatia, two from France, I could go on.
It always strikes me that such a simple card – merely a few words and a picture – generate such feeling. I am always happy when I receive a postcard.
Perhaps the simple things in life are the most effective?
Maybe I should try a simple approach during the next term’s work as SENCo – my seventh year in the role.
I will aim to do something simple and positive each day. Watch this space.

Firstly, I think there is an extremely organised person inside every leader and manager within education; sometimes they're they're still trying to bursting out of the physical presence that is often an extremely stressed out individual, clearly you've got your organisational self working well!
I thought you were going to talk about praise postcards. These are something that are currently missing from my school but that I'm hoping to persuade the PTFA to support and introduce over the next year.
I'm sure readers are familiar with the concept of a quick note home on a subject specific postcard. Some teachers like to get the pupil to write the name and address on (saves time and a trip to SIMs or in the office folder), others say this spoils the suprise and that it's better to take the time to address it and keep it completely secret until the card drops on the letterbox.
I must confess that at my last school I got my PA to write the addresses on (oh how lazy is that) but justify it by saying that I took more time over the message.
I'll post some draft postcards on Balancing Act once I've pursuaded the Parents Association to cough up and persuaded the subject leaders that it's a win-win idea!
