The Role of the Subject Leader

Author: Edited by Glynn Kirkham

Subject leadership is developing as a role. The Role of the Subject Leader, edited by Glynn Kirkham, assists subject leaders in the establishment of a detailed appreciation of the role.

Subject leadership is a relatively new concept, and relevant texts and guidelines are mainly based around National Standards. This text helps subject leaders to understand their role and cause them to reflect about how and, particularly, why they carry out their roles as they do.

It also serves to:

  • identify the qualities, attributes and knowledge necessary to fulfill the role with confidence;
  • be your comprehensive guide to the demands made upon subject leaders and middle managers, demonstrating the breadth of expertise required to work effectively;
  • assist subject leaders to be empowered to lead, rather than just to respond to initiatives.
