Eleven new schools will be built in the Scottish highlands as part of a ‘21st Century Schools Improvement Plan’ devised by the Highland Council, and made possible though a major injection of funds from a new private finance initiative.
The development underlines the government’s determination to forge ahead with its PFI plans despite having attracted criticism in recent months. The scheme will be funded by only the second bond issue launched to fund a Scottish schools project, the first being for Transform Schools in Lanarkshire.
