**Fully Resourced & Equipped Autistic Unit

The head of the communications learning department at this ‘Good’ secondary school is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced candidate to join the ASD team from October 2009 or a.s.a.p. thereafter to join the drive for continued improvement. The school is a mainstream secondary school with a superb ASD unit. The school consistently demonstrates the ability to provide outstanding and innovative leadership in a variety of key school areas, including ICT throughout the school and within the school context of continuous improvement. Exemplary behaviour management skills, working in partnership with staff, parents and the community, and promoting inclusive opportunities to benefit all students is paramount.

Teaching is currently supported by high quality in-class teaching assistants, but also by the students being able to access counselling support, speech and language support and occupational therapy support, all within the school. The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate experience of teaching pupils with ASD/Asperger’s Syndrome and have the aptitude and skill to assist students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
