Responsible person | Teaching Expertise

Tags: A to Z of Special Needs

The governors of the school must designate a responsible person, who is usually the headteacher, or possibly the special needs coordinator or the special needs governor.

The responsible person must be informed by the LEA when a pupil at that school is provided with a statement of special educational needs.

It is then the duty of the responsible person to ensure that all members of staff who may teach or support that child know that they have a statement of special educational needs, what it is for and what targets are set within it.
