I moved into teaching in 1994 after five years in the City. Fun as the ‘square mile’ was, it seemed ultimately a rather soulless existence. I have never regretted the move, and, whilst the bank balance would have been nice, teaching has provided more fulfilment than I could have hoped for. As Head of History at Millfield School (and previously Dauntsey’s School in Wiltshire where I was also Housemaster for three years) I have run two very successful departments. I have played a full role in the wider life of the school coaching rugby, canoeing and training prefects amongst other things.
