Poetry can build a strong foundation for a variety of reading and writing skills. In particular, Poetry in fourth grade builds on reading, speaking, and listening skills. Bringing an array of presentations of poems into the classroom is extremely important. As students listen orally to a poem they will gain the skills and knowledge of hearing words and putting them together into thoughts and emotions.
Fluency is built through repeated reading of the rhythm and rhyme of each poem. There is a poem out there for each student to relate to. We've put together a list of 28 of our student's most beloved poems!
