10 Caterpillar Counting Activities

Caterpillar counting activities are a fun way to teach kids about numeracy, develop one-to-one correspondence skills and strengthen foundational math skills.

Just be sure to provide sufficient transition times when engaging in any of these activities. For crafts that require drying time, why not have kids do some science activities, language activities, or even enjoy some reading time while they wait? 

Here are 10 engaging and educational activities that are sure to get your kids excited about math. 

1. Activity Tray

This is a terrific hands-on math activity to help toddlers practice counting and develop one-to-one correspondence skills.

Create a caterpillar-themed activity tray with craft sticks, green lids from fruit pouches, flowers, or other small objects before inviting students to use the items to practice counting.

2. Pom-Pom Caterpillar Counting Activity

This pom-pom caterpillar activity is perfect for preschoolers. All it requires are craft sticks and small pom-poms to construct an adorable little critter.

3. Fingerprint Ideas

This hands-on activity encourages both counting and creativity. Why not use colorful ink pads to create a caterpillar using the kids’ fingerprints? They can start with a green base before enhancing their creations with other colors.
