25 Christmas Math Activities For Middle School

Middle school is the best time for kids to acquire math skills and gain confidence. Through games and activities, children can learn and have fun too. Going from elementary school to middle school can be a time of anxiety and children feel inhibited to ask for help sometimes. Therefore, through these fun math games, they can get reinforcement and let off a little steam.

1. Are you on the naughty or nice list?

Have students look at typical wish lists and add up what Christmas costs for a family of 4 from "Santa" would cost. Have the middle schoolers add up what was spent on presents with sales tax of course and see what the numbers show. Start teaching budgeting for math practice.

Give the students a stocking filled with words on red slips of paper and another stocking with green slips of paper that has equations on it. Students in pairs take on one piece of paper from each and together they will invent a word problem using the given word and equation.

11.   Hershey Kisses Math -So Sweet at Christmas!

Use a big bag of Hershey Kisses and write numbers from 30-100 on white round stickers and put it on the bottom of the kiss. Then tell the students while they are enjoying their treat to come up with any 3-step mathematical equation that the answer would match their number. Sealed with a kiss!
