Hanukkah is the Jewish celebration, also known as the 'festival of lights', and commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple. With this holiday being so important to so many students around the world, there are many different classroom activities around to help students to learn more about Hanukkah.

We have gathered 20 of the most exciting and creative activities to use in your classroom of elementary school students during the holiday season to celebrate Hanukkah. Read on to find out more.

1.  Chocolate Dreidels

One of the best parts of the holiday season is the food. Raid the food pantry to see if you have the ingredients needed to make these sweet chocolate dreidels. These are perfect for students to make and take home for Hanukkah for their families to enjoy, or to make for a celebration in school.

2. Dreidel Challah and Menorah Challah

Challah is a special bread of Jewish origin that is usually crafted into creative designs and is eaten on days of ceremonial occasions, such as Hanukkah. These awesome challah dreidel and menorah would be a great challenge for older students to make.

3. Watch This Video About the Story of Hanukkah 

Teach your students about the Hanukkah holiday through videos. This video covers how Hanukkah is celebrated, its origins and explains symbols such as the menorah and dreidel. This video is ideal to give students who are unfamiliar with Hanukkah a bit more background on this popular holiday.

The menorah is a highly recognizable symbol of Hanukkah. Children can learn about why there are exactly nine candles on the Hanukkah menorah and how these are lit, one for each night of Hanukkah. This pointillism menorah craft is simple to make but will stand out.

Students can try to unscramble these letters to spell a word linked to the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, like in this free printable example.
