13 Superb Sea Turtle Activities For Kids Of All Ages

You may be surprised to learn that there are seven species of sea turtles! Through engaging in these fun activities, students will learn why these ocean animals are endangered. They will explore adult sea turtle conservation efforts as well as the turtle life cycle.

It is important for children to investigate what it takes to protect these fascinating ocean creatures. Students are sure to love learning through these engaging activities and will be amazed by all the sea creature facts they discover! 

1. Fun Sea Turtle Fact Find

Enjoy this resource with fun facts about sea turtles. I would have students write down five facts each that surprised them after exploring this fact sheet independently or in a small group. Then, they can share their learning with classmates.

2. Sea Turtle Craft

Check out this adorable turtle craft! For this activity, you will need wooden eggs or papier mache, acrylic paint, a paintbrush, cardstock, hot glue, a pencil, a fine-tip black marker, and scissors. This resource includes directions to help craft these adorable creatures.

3. Sea Turtle Live Camera

Bring sea turtles to your students with this live camera online resource from Loggerhead Marinelife Center. After having students observe the sea turtles that are currently hospitalized and rehabilitated, encourage them to write down all of their questions for a class discussion.

Baking is always a hit with kids! Little ones will love the end result of these cute sea turtle-themed cupcakes. I love the use of blue icing to make it look like the mini sea turtles are swimming in the ocean.

Did you know sea turtles have existed for around 110 million years? Learn about these fascinating creatures by playing this awesome sea turtle trivia game! Students will be able to work in teams to put each other’s knowledge to the test.

6. Paper Turtle Craft

This fun sea turtle craft can be constructed with paper plates or bowls, googly eyes, green construction paper, brown paint, and a black marker. Add a paper plate or bowl to create a raised shell and voila – you have a textured turtle!

For this activity, students will form a sentence using the words provided. They can write as many sentences as they can come up with, as long as they make sense! If there is extra time, they can color the sea turtle before sharing their sentences with classmates.
