We know that students of all ages can sometimes struggle to grasp the concept of division.  Fret not because we’re here to help your kiddos learn this challenging skill by providing you with a host of engaging games, videos, and activities to assist where necessary. Get exploring to help your students become division-loving mathematicians in no time!

1. Creating Division Anchor Charts Together

Help your students better understand the concept of division and build their skills by creating an anchor chart together! To do so, talk through a basic equation and show your kiddos how division can be represented in many ways. This poster can then be displayed in your classroom all year long.

2. Division Factor Fun Worksheet

Here’s an interactive worksheet to help your students solve division problems by having them look at the reverse world problem- multiplication! Your kids will be excited to complete this activity online as the helpful robot will teach them how to conceptualize their answers in both ways.

3. Teaching Division Using Manipulatives

This technique is a favorite for teaching division to younger students. Your students can divide uniform objects like jelly beans, erasers, marshmallows, or pencils into groups to practice making division models.

4. Teaching Remainder With Cubes and Whiteboards

Understanding division with remainder can be extremely challenging for your young learners. In this activity, your students will use cubes to depict how leftover pieces resemble remainders. 15. Magic Division Wheel

We’ve chosen this fun division craft for your kiddos to practice working with higher dividends whilst solidifying the relationship between multiplication and division. On each of the petals, your students must write a multiple of the number in the center. Then, when the petal is flipped towards the center, your students will reveal the quotient and be able to solve the equation.

Escape rooms are incredibly popular with kids and adults alike! Print out a few division worksheets and purchase some locks (along with a few other materials) and you’ll be all set to simulate an escape room in your classroom; having your students solve division-based problems to find their way out of trouble!

17. Deck of Cards Math Division

For this game, your students will need this free printable, a deck of playing cards, and a marker. Have them pull cards to determine what numbers they will use for their division problems. Once they’ve solved each problem, hand them a calculator to check all of their answers!

18. Long Division Challenge

For your more advanced students, try out this long-division challenge! Your students will start with at least a nine-digit number divided by a one-digit number. Then, they will keep dividing the number over and over again until it becomes not divisible by the original number anymore!

19. Uno Flip Math Card Game

Instead of making flashcards from scratch, use a deck of Uno cards and post-its with a division and equals sign to create equations. To make this game more challenging, have your students make three or four-digit equations with a remainder and try their hand at solving those!

29. Riveting Divide and Conquer Board Game

This fun card game is for 2 or more players and is recommended for 4th through 6th graders. You’ll have to take out the jokers and face cards before using the remaining cards in a normal deck. Similar to Go Fish, your students will have to create pairs. The trick is that the pairs can only be created by finding cards that divide into each other without remainders. Here’s a simple, interactive classroom game! With roll and divide your kiddos will need manipulatives or counters to become their dividend and one die to determine the value of their divisor. Once they physically divide the counters, they’ll be able to record the quotient onto a free printable!

It’s a race against the clock to solve each division fact! In this digital game of Connect 4 division- your players will be given 20 seconds to solve a multiple-choice division problem. If they get it correct, they can then add a colored marker to the board. The goal is to form a line of 4 in a row before their online opponent does!

46. Division Relay Race

This relay race is a fusion of physical activity and rapid mental calculations! Start by splitting your students into two teams and writing an equal amount of problems on either side of the chalkboard. Your mathematicians will then need to line up and dash to the board to solve the first problem. If they get it right, you yell “correct” so that they can run and tag the next person in line. Playfully introducing a challenging math skill like division can be a great way to teach a new concept. Here, we suggest using puppets to create a dialogue about sharing. Through play, your little learners will discover how to divide through a theatrical story of fairly sharing apples with their puppet friends!

49. Chain of Champions

We love this printable paper-chain activity to engage your learners in more math practice! Once you’ve cut out the prompts into strips, your students can look for the one that says, “Start.” They’ll tackle the word problem on a piece of paper or a whiteboard. Then, they’ll look for the answer that’s written on another strip of paper; written next to the answer is their next division problem to solve. Essentially, they’ll connect their chain with answers and questions until they reach the end; creating a tangible record of their learning!

50. Division Problem Search 

This activity will keep your students busy hunting for equations! Each division search will have a bunch of numbers inside of a box. Your mathematicians will have to identify where 3 numbers, vertically or horizontally, create a division problem. Once identified, they’ll circle the word equation and then add in the division symbol and equal sign.

Double the challenge by adding math problems to your Jenga game! You’ll need a Jenga set and a marker to inscribe a unique division problem on each block. As your children play, they’ll need to strategically pull blocks to maintain the tower’s stability and solve the problem presented!

This fun domino game will make a great center activity! On each set of printable dominoes is a division equation on one half, and the quotient to another problem on the other half. Your kiddos will form a large snaking line of dominos as they work their way through solving all the problems!

53. Fractioned Adventures

Task your learners with making their own fraction cards! Their folds and cuts must be done proportionately, so we’d recommend this activity for students above 3rd grade. Fraction cards are a great visual to teach your kids to understand the concept of parts of a whole. With them, solving complex operations is sure to become a whole lot easier!

54. Cupcake Conundrums

This hands-on activity will take a little bit of prep work from you, but your children will certainly benefit from speeding up their division fact recall! Write some division problems on different craft sticks and record the quotients to each problem in a paper cupcake liner. Your students can then choose pom poms or other manipulatives to place inside each liner to show the answer to their chosen problem.

Once they’ve decorated their paper plates with their favorite pizza toppings, help your kiddos carefully cut equal parts of a whole. They can then use multiple plates to divide into fractionated parts like thirds, and eighths; correctly labeling each part as they go!
